Square Amps Scenic DriveRight off the bat with today’s featured pedal, there’s something very unique. While most pedal enclosures feature some kind of graphics or etching or something along those lines, the Scenic Drive from Square Amps is completely see-through, letting us all see the insides for all their glory (well, at least to those who can understand what’s going on in there, which definitely leaves us out of the loop). Not to mention it’s a pretty badass overdrive at the same time, so let’s see what she can do, k?

From a complexity standpoint, the Scenic Drive is a cinch to navigate. Two controls make up the gist of the pedal, making it fairly easy for just about anyone to dial in a great sound in a couple of minutes. While the word “Drive” in the title may lead you to believe it’s an overdrive, the Scenic Drive is really more of a fuzz/distortion, although it will produce some smooth and warm drive-type tones at lower gain levels.

Gain and Volume are what you use to dial in the sound here, making it a basic no-brainer. Set the Volume to match your clean tone, then slowly add in the dirt until you’ve got a great sound. This, of course, will vary depending on the guitar and amp you’re using, but it works with humbuckers and single-coils, and is responsive to your playing style as well. The enclosure is a Hammond 1591B measuring 4.4L x 2.4W x 1.1D, made of industrial strength polycarbonate and can withstand anything you can throw (or stomp) at it. On an environmental level, the Scenic Drive does not offer a battery option, making the landfills across the globe a little cleaner as well.

Clean. Clear. Loud. Rad. Driven. But enough about the demo video below…you need to check out the Scenic Drive for yourself, and unleash the power and mojo that is (un)hidden within it’s see-through walls. Thanks so much to the crew at Square Amps for letting us check this beast out – while simplicity is the first thing you may notice about this pedal, the tones it brings forth are anything but, and we’re super-stoked to see what they have to offer up next – cheers!
