Rock Stock Pedals Dark Horse FuzzBig, fat, thick and tasty fuzz pedals are always welcome on our review table, and the Dark Horse from Rock Stock Pedals was one we were particularly excited about putting through the paces. Another pedal that is excellent on both guitar and bass, this simple but intricate effect is holding a lot of tonal range in only three knobs, and is an amp-exciter to say the least.

Volume sets the overall output, and you won’t get lost in the mix with this pedal, believe us! Treble will get your tone-shaping up to par, from brooding and darker sludge fuzz to bright and biting, crisp and clear fuzz with a bit more high end. The Sustain knob adds in the saturated, high-gain silicon fuzz to your signal path, from a hint of dirt to an all-out fuzz bomb factory. These three controls seem simple at first glance, and, while they’re very user-intuitive and easy to figure out, they offer a huuge range of sounds that are just waiting to be discovered.

Retaining the low end is key for fuzz pedals, and the Dark Horse does it in spades. Covering a ton of sonic ground, this fuzz will put a smile on your face from the moment you engage it, and should quickly find a permanent place on a ton of pedalboards throughout the world. Thanks as always to Ryan and all at Rock Stock Pedals for their continued support, we always enjoy the magnificent gear they send over for us to review.
