We dig it when a pedal arrives that is just plain HEAVY – plug it in, turn up your volume and hope the neighbors don’t get too itchy with their police-dialing fingers. The pedal we;re checking out today is exactly that type – raw, unencumbered, gritty, dirty, nasty and, above all, killer-sounding. The Supercollider is a distortion/fuzz pedal from our new pals at Earthbound Audio, and it’s sure to be a noisemaker you’re going to want to check out.
Volume, Gain and Tone controls show up, as they usually do on pedals of this nature, and the Tone and Gain have nice range each, with plenty of Volume on tap to back them up. A Mids knob allows you to get scooped mid tones, a boosted midrange when cranked up, and a whole lot in between. There’s a Mass knob as well, which controls the Supercollider’s low end: dial it back to get bassier, fuzzier sounds, and max it out for a crispy, crunchy distorted tonal range. This version also features a toggle switch that lets you choose between LED or Silicon clipping options, opening up the effect for a lot more possibilities.
Great on guitar, and fantastic on bass when the low end is dialed in, the Supercollider is both a fuzz and distortion at once, melding together the two gloriously heavy worlds to conjure up powerful musical sounds. If you play down-tuned guitar or thick and heavy bass, this is one pedal you absolutely NEED to check out, and for some sound samples, make sure to watch our demo video below! Thanks so much to Earthbound Audio for sending this rad, powerful piece of gear to us to investigate – stay tuned for more reviews of their pedals here at Pedal of the Day coming soon!
