Another compressor pedal review is upon us, and if you haven’t grown to love them yet, we’re gonna try again and again until you do. Today’s “invisible” pedal comes to us from Japan, via a small company called Ninevolt Pedals, whose gear we’ve reviewed before (and will again). The 1927 Home Run King Compressor seeks to achieve the same tones as high-end studio compressors, all wrapped up in a nice, pedalboard and budget-friendly package.
Compressors are generally used to control your tone’s density and sustain, while taming the high and low frequencies to an even playing field. The 1927 Home Run King features a simple control system to do this, making it both easy to use and extremely useful to your sound. Volume sets the overall output level of the pedal, EQ controls the frequency range and Comp sets how much or how little compression you want running through your signal path. It also boasts TWO LED lights – one to indicate if the pedal is active or bypassed, and one to show when the compression is working hard. Not much more to this simple pedal, but your tone and audience will appreciate its value.
With a very natural sound and a tone that won’t step all over your original guitar’s signal, the 1927 Home Run King Compressor is a perfect pedal from those who are still skeptical about compression in general. Easy to set up but with enough options to have some flexibility, this pedal is sure to go on and stay on many pedalboards the world over. Thanks again to the crew at Ninevolt Pedals for sending this our way – check out all of their pedals on their website, and stay tuned right here for more reviews of this great lineup from a great company!
