After hearing so much about and seeing the Caveman Overdrive all over the place over the last year, we were super-excited when the guys from Oddfellow Effects said they wanted to send us their newest pedal, The Bishop Overdrive, to check out and review. While the Caveman is a dual-channel drive, The Bishop is a more basic, stripped-down overdrive, but with a ton of punch and kick to get your amp sounding incredible.
We’ve got three words for you:
Headroom, Headroom, Headroom!
Set up like a lot of overdrive pedals, The Bishop features Volume, Gain and Treb (Tone) controls, with a couple of goodies inside as well. The range of the Gain structure is such that you can use it as a slightly gritty boost, a nice, light first-stage drive or a more powerful, grungier-sounding effect to push your amp, and really get those solos and lead runs rocking. Crank it up and use your guitar’s volume knob to mix in the grit as you see fit, too, for on-the-fly adjustments and more versatility than you can shake a Les Paul at.
Open The Bishop up, and you’ll find you can flick a switch to go between buffered and true bypass, making it play well with any other pedal setup. Not only that, but it can run between 9V and 18V for power consumption, enabling even more room to play around to find the perfect sound your rig requires. Dynamic, transparent when needed and always tonal ecstasy, this golden nugget will turn heads and rock eardrums like there’s no tomorrow.
If you like the sounds of the Caveman but don’t need that much power, then The Bishop may be right up your alley. Designed in collaboration with Scotty Smith of ProAnalog Devices, this overdrive covers a TON of ground, and can be used as both a powerful “always-on” tone machine, or a punch-in-the-face overdrive when you need that extra little kick in the musical pants. Thanks so much to the guys over at Oddfellow Effects for letting us check this guy out – we hope to be able to review the products they put out for a long time to come, so stay tuned for more!!
