After the options-laden Aquarius Fuzz pedal we looked at last week, today’s featured piece of gear does a complete 180, and gets down and dirty with a stripped-down enclosure and bare minimum controls. Lone Wolf Audio is well-known for producing some of the most unique, complex noise machines in the industry, so it was both a shock and a welcome sight to see the Bulldozer Fuzz arrive in our mailbox. This one-knob pedal doesn’t mess around with a bunch of frills and overly-complicated design structures – it just hits you right in the face from the moment you turn it on, and just keeps going.
With some definite Russian Muff fuzziness looming large, the Bulldozer is a plug-and-play device, to be sure. The lone control knob just makes the fuzz louder and more intense, so you set it where you want it and you’re done. It’s a heavy-tuned fuzz that boasts two internal transistors that are set full blast, so there’s no shortage of either fuzz or volume present anywhere within 30 feet of this pedal.
Here’s the deal: this is a loud, boisterous fuzz that should not be used near anyone with a pacemaker, probably. You may get the heave-ho after just one song in a small club, and the police just may knock on your door shortly after your band practice in the garage has started. However, you will be able to make some killer music, and blow the minds of anyone who can stand the walls of fuzz it creates (or who were smart enough to bring earplugs to the show). Thanks to Joe and Lone Wolf Audio for producing such a simple, basic rock star of a pedal that does just one thing, and does it extremely well.
