The resurgence of Way Huge Electronics via Jim Dunlop over the last few years has been a treat for the effects-using world, and we’ve had the pleasure of checking out a bunch of these rad pedals (with more reviews to come!). Today’s reddish-pink enclosure brings us the Red Llama™, the first of the original Way Huge pedals, and one that is highly coveted for it’s great tone and response. Two knobs, one goal: to rock your face.
The Red Llama™ features the Way Huge lineup’s aggressive output Volume knob, which will push your amp’s input to the edge with ease. The second control knob is the Drive option, which boasts a CMOS circuit for tube-like tone and dynamics, and transparent, boutique-style tones. The Red Llama™ is extremely sensitive to your playing as well, very responsive to your pick attack and overall dynamics, and produces a sound reminiscent of an classic old Tweed amplifier, for defined open chords and tasty, crunchy rock rhythms.
The Red Llama™ will get downright dirty, too, capable of giving off beautifully sparkling distortion at higher levels, while staying in-tact and true to the tones produced by your guitar and amp, without coloration. Not a reproduction, but a continuation of where the groundbreaking archetype left off in 1999, this little beauty is a true workhorse, and will blast your amp into overdrive in seconds. We’ve got a bunch of Way Huge pedal reviews coming up in the near future, so keep an eye out for those, and don’t forget to head over to their website for more great pedals as well!
