Walrus Audio Julia Chorus Vibrato Around here, we get pretty excited whenever the crew over at Walrus Audio unleashes a new pedal release on the world, as we have reviewed just about all of their pedals, and they just keep getting better and better. This time around, they’ve gone to modulation town, with a wicked mash up of chorus and vibrato, but with some new options for ultimate tweakability and customization not seen too often in a pedal of this nature. From the depths of the sea, this is the Julia Analog Chorus/Vibrato.

Starting off in the control section, Rate and Depth get things moving right away, with both featuring great tonal ranges for immediately dialing in great sounds with ease. The Lag control is a fun one, as it lets you set the center delay time that the LFO effect modulates from. Going from a smoother and tighter modulation at lower settings, to warbling detune at maximum, this control takes the traditional chorus and vibrato sounds, and adds a whole new dimension to them.

The Dry-Chorus Vibrato blend control on the Julia is probably the one that stands out from traditional pedals in this genre, utilizing a smooth knob to seamlessly blend these modes, instead of the typical toggle switch that selects the mode. Blend your dry signal with some chorus for a slight hint of modulation, get a rich, full chorus sound on its own. Or, you can blend the chorus and vibrato together for a wild landscape of sonic exploration. OR, go full 100% wet signal for some intense and sparkling vibrato tones.

With it’s name taken from a mysterious underwater phenomenon and a demigoddess or legend, the Julia conjures up a wide range of emotions, thoughts, feelings and, most importantly, tones. Ever-inventive, Colt and Walrus Audio keep us all on our toes in anticipation for their next release, and when they arrive, we’re all pretty damn excited and pleased with the results. Thanks again to those guys for letting us check out yet another one of their rad creations – check the video below to hear some samples of what you can do with the Julia, and check back soon for more reviews of Walrus Audio effects!

In 1999, an unexplained sound from the dark south pacific waters was picked up on spectrographs everywhere from thousands of miles around. While most scientists attributed the magnificent underwater boom to a massive iceberg break, skeptics began to understand the true source of the cry; Julia, the water demigoddess. Singing from the depths in a chorus of melancholy, she remains to be uncaught, but the pursuit for her is unceasing. Walrus has captured a fraction of her power in the Julia Analog Chorus/Vibrato.
