Apparently, Greece is where to be to experience and pontificate on the wonders of the world, and then harness those discoveries into some incredible effects pedals. Having somewhat recently reviewed the Taff 2 Scientific Tremolo, which was a brilliant way to be introduced to this company, we were wicked stoked to check today’s featured pedal, the Epsilon Distortion Envelope Filter. Right away, it just sounds cool, and once you plug it in and get to experimenting, you too will soon realize the power that these pedals hold, and will make one of them a must-have in your sonic arsenal.
As with all Dreadbox effects, there’s a bit of a learning curve involved to harness the Epsilon‘s full potential, but that’s half the fun of discovering new sounds, right? The VC Filter section starts things off, and features Cut Off (frequency) and Resonance (feedback) control knobs, as well as a toggle to switch between Low Pass and Band Pass filters. The Amp section is up next, using Volume and Gain controls to drive the dirt portion of this unique pedal, along with a toggle that selects either a Low or High gain spectrum.
The Envelope section highlights three control knobs: Attack, Release and Depth, which makes for a wonderful mixture of tones when set at different intervals. A big, fat Sense knob determines how easy it is for your input signal to trigger the envelope, again focusing on your exact specs for your exact sound and setup. There are several CV jacks as well, including VCF Input, Envelope Voltage Out, G In (envelope trigger) and G Out (audio to gate converter) for even more sonic and experimental options.
We love combined effects here at Pedal of the Day, and these two together in such a unique and creative environment couldn’t make us happier. Continually pushing the envelope (pun intended) with new, out-if-this-world effects and creations, Dreadbox keeps on impressing and wowing anyone and everyone who is lucky enough to get to use their equipment. Thanks so much to everyone at Dreadbox for sending us the Epsilon to check out – here’s to more reviews of their great gear in the near future, cheers!
