pb&j pedals malibu drive Sometimes you just need a simple, straight-to-the-point, matter-of-fact, 3-knob overdrive pedal for just a bit of grit and grime to add to your sound. While there are certainly many options to choose from with those descriptive points, today’s pedal has all of these features in spades, with a nod to the green classic a lot of us love. Here is the Malibu Drive from PB&J Pedals…

Gain, Volume and Tone make up the classic and oft-used control section of the Malibu Drive, so there’s not a lot of wheel-reinvention in that regard. However, it has a great 808-type feel to its sound, capable of getting some spot-on SRV tones when paired with a great amp. Sweet blues licks come pouring out of this pedal, but you can flip it and turn it into a rock and roll animal by cranking the Gain up, too, making for some delicious lead/solo sounds as well. It has a TON of headroom, too, making it the perfect compliment to your tube amp, able to push it into scrumptious break-up territory with ease.

PB&J Pedals logoPhilip and PB&J Pedals have been great supporters of Pedal of the Day since we discovered them on the old Interwebs, and the Malibu Drive is yet another example of how they continue to evolve and put out fantastic pedals. Not too flashy, or overloaded with too many options, this overdrive fits perfectly on any board, and will add sparkle to a perhaps lackluster sound you’ve been settling for. This isn’t their only pedal offering, so make sure to check out the PB&J Pedals website to see how they can help shape, strengthen and electrify your rig! Stay tuned for our review of their Boost Factory as well, coming soon….
