Another day, another delay, which is absolutely fine with us! Today’s featured echo machine comes to us from SiB Electronics, and it is the big brother version of one of their most popular pedals, the Mr. Echo Delay. The model we’re going to check out is the Mr. Echo PLUS, which adds control for one of the signature features of these pedals, but still retains that same awesome delay tone that we’re all constantly after.
Going left to right, the control panel on the Mr. Echo Plus starts off with Delay, ’cause why not? With a nice range from 30ms to 550ms, there’s enough delay on tap for most situations, especially for cool slap back sounds and excellent lead tones, too. Slam is one of the coolest features of this pedal, and is activated by a second footswitch in the bottom left corner of the pedal. This momentary switch automatically sets the delay time to 30ms, but lets you adjust the repeats from one to infinite, as long as the switch is held down, returning to normal when you let go. Lots of fun and crazy sounds to explore with this feature, and certainly an added bonus to the usual delay options.
Repeat controls the number of echoes, while Mix is a simple blending control between the effects and your instrument’s dry signal, with 50/50 being set at 12:00. Finally, the Volume control is a welcome sign as well, as you can set it to match the bypassed signal’s volume, or crank it up a hair and get a slight boost when the Mr. Echo Plus is engaged, again a great option for lead tones and ripping solos. If all this wasn’t enough to get you excited, there’s a top-mounted jack you can use with a passive expression pedal for hands free control over the Delay, which in turn gives the normal Delay control the ability to set the max range of the effect.
This thing is also a tank, made in the USA from abuse-resistant steel, to ensure of lifetime of beautiful echoes with no damage. This being our first sonic adventure into the world of SiB Electronics’ pedals, we were nothing if not impressed, and tried to convey a little bit of what this red monster can do in the video below, so be sure to give it a listen and see for yourself what can be accomplished with relative ease.
