Now that we’ve got the business out of the way, let’s move on to today’s featured pedal. This is our first venture into the world of Electronic Audio Experiments, and if the Longsword Overdrive V2 is any indication of what the future holds for this company, we can’t wait to see what’s next. An overdrive, boost and distortion in one, this pedal is going to blow you away. Level and Drive are your basic controls, with a ton of output volume to work with, and a wide, expansive range of gain to dial in at any level you might need. The EQ section features High, Low and Mid controls, making it excessively more useful than just your basic tone knob, and allowing for plenty of sound shaping of the output signal. There’s also a 2nd footswitch that engages a second gain stage, for more power and gain to wield through your amp (this is controlled by an internal trimpot).

A couple of nice toggle switches have made their way onto the Longsword, and each one can be of vast assistance to your tone. The Frequency toggle switches from low range to high range, for a large sonic spectrum from which to play with. The Range switch adjusts both the Gain and Treble Response for the second gain stage, great for use on bass guitars, or high-output pickups as well. Finally, three clipping modes bring a slew of distortion options to the table: symmetrical LED clipping, symmetrical Germanium clipping (using NOS germanium diodes) and an Open mode for pure op amp clipping and increased headroom. These toggle switches really open the Longsword up, and the tones to be had are seemingly limitless once engaged.
