blackstone appliances mosfet overdriveIn our experience, when a company only makes ONE pedal, and that pedal is extremely popular among those players who actually know about it, it tends to be pretty damn rad. Such is the case with today’s pedal, the Mosfet Overdrive from Blackstone Appliances. A 2-in-1 of sorts, this overdrive will give you all the boost, crunch and distortion you can handle…provided you have a screwdriver or Leatherman nearby to adjust its settings.

The Blackstone Mosfet features 2 separate and distinct footswitchable overdrive channels, both with their own adjustable gain stages and on-the-fly selection abilities. Both channels, the Brown and the Red, are the same, except that the Red Channel is also divided into 2 different ranges – one to thicken up single-coil pickups, the other to tighten up the bass for humbuckers. A center control adjusts your midrange tones to taste, with either a flat eq to the right, or decreased mids for more gain when dialed counter-clockwise.

There are a couple of internal options as well on the Blackstone Mosfet Overdrive, though the factory settings are recommended. The “Gn2” trimpot adjusts the gain output, while “Trbl” lets you adjusts the high-end frequencies. Plus, there’s an internal switch between true bypass and buffered modes, with the latter allowing you to place the Mosfet anywhere in your pedal chain with astonishingly clear and precise sonic results.

Designed to go into a clean amp, the Blackstone Mosfet Overdrive isn’t meant to push your amp into breakup territory, but rather to control all of the distortion on its own, which can be done easily, as it works wonderfully with your guitar’s volume control, and will clean up in an instant. A truly unique dual overdrive pedal, with a ton of options and funky controls, this pedal produces some excellent distortion and drive tones, and is very dynamic in regards to each player’s individual techniques as well. Although it’s the only pedal currently available from Blackstone Appliances, it is one that is used by some incredible guitar players, including Billy Gibbons, Jimmy Vivino and Matthew Sweet.
