There’s a little pedal company out of Denmark called Emma Electronic, and they’ve been putting out some sweet pedals for years now. One of our favorites here at Pedal of the Day is their envelope filter, the DiscumBOBulator (check out the review here), and we’ve got another rocker for you today. The OnoMATOpoeia (great name, by the way) is a Boost and Overdrive in one, but won’t color your original signal in the least.
Level (overall output volume) and Tone (bass/treble EQ) begin the control section of the OnoMATOpoeia, and are two pretty much expected knobs on any given overdrive pedal these days. Next is an interesting addition to this pedal, the Saturation knob. Apparently, before effects pedals (particularly overdrive/distortion) were used by everyone, some guitarists would remove one power tube from their amp in order to make it naturally distort, which is what the OnoMATOpoeia emulates when this knob is turned hard to the left. If turned to the right, the pedal produces normal amplification and overdrive.
As you’ll see in the video, the OnoMATOpoeia takes on many different shapes, forms and sounds, all of which can be extremely useable in any given live or studio situation. Clean boost, light crunch and borderline distortion are all achievable with ease here, making this both one of the most useful AND unique pedals that will appear on your board in the near future. Thanks to Kevin and all at Godlyke for sending the OnoMATOpoeia Boost Overdrive our way to check out – go see their website for sure, and check out ALL the gear and companies they have to tell you about!
