The Nova series of pedals from TC Electronics have been enthralling us for some time now, cramming a seemingly endless supply of options and effects into each pint-sized box that’s produced. Whether it’s in the realm of delay (ND-1, RPT-1), modulation (NM-1), dynamics (NDY-1) or Overdrive (NDR-1), or today’s featured pedal, the NR-1 Reverb, each of these pedals bring something new to the effects game, including this awesome and option-filled reverb.

The control section starts off with Decay, which determines how fast the reverb effect dies out after it leaves the pedal/amp. Pre-Delay controls how much faster your dry signal arrives before the effect does, a fun knob to experiment with for sure, with a great range of room sounds from small to vast and expansive. Color adjusts the tone of your reverb sound, from dark and murky to bright and shining. The Dynamix knob is a TC specialty, first appearing on the legendary TC 2290 Delay. It lets you dial in how much the reverb is affects by your playing dynamics, or how hard/soft you hit the strings. Very cool. The top row of knobs concluded with a wet/dry Mix knob, for exact specifications on how much effect you want coming through the mix.

The next row features 4 main effects for your reverberated pleasure, with selectable subdivisions for each one: Room (Small, Medium, Large, Tiled), Spring (Plain, Classic, Vintage), Hall (Small Medium, Church, Classic, Concert) and Plate (Tin, Silver, Gold). Each of these represents a staple in reverb since its inception, and through the Nova Reverb you can mix and match these settings, creating an endless spectrum of reverb options to choose from. A fifth button on this row adds even more tones and dynamics into the mix, the Special Effects button, which lets you choose from Stompbox, Ambient and Modulated reverb sounds.

Two footswitches let you select from Manual and Preset mode, for quick, pre-selected adjustments on the fly, and with stereo In and Out capabilities, the Nova Reverb fits perfectly with any stereo or mono setup. Sort of underground reverb pedal in today’s effects market, the NR-1 will surprise and delight you with all it can do, and all the reverb sounds it’s capable of making, too. If you’re looking for a ton of options within a relatively small pedalboard footprint, the Nova Reverb from TC Electronic might just be the exact thing you’ve been searching for.
