fairfield circuitry four eyes fuzzThe gang at Fairfield Circuitry are well-known for creating new and exciting pedals, so we were super-stoked when we teamed up with them and they sent us our first pedal for review, the Four Eyes Fuzz. Having reviewed their Barbershop Overdrive and Meet Maude Analog Delay pedals so far, we were excited to test out their take on a fuzz pedal, and it did not disappoint. Containing three parallel JFET fuzz circuits driven by a voltage controlled filter with resonance control and a mu-amp input stage, this is not your grandpa’s fuzz.

A Volume knob starts off the control section of the Four Eyes Fuzz, and there is LOADS on tap, certifying that your fuzzy voice will be heard throughout the club or stadium, whichever you happen to be playing next weekend. Three knobs up top (Lo, Mid and Hi) drive the fuzz circuits of three filters (Low Pass, Band Pass and High Pass), letting you dial in a plethora of differing fuzz sounds for all kinds of musical genres. A Frequency knob controls the cutoff or center frequency for each of these 3 filters as well, for more customization and experimentation.

There also a small toggle switch that lets you select between 3 different levels of filter resonance: 1, 10 or 100, described from Fairfield Circuitry as “mild, spicy or suicide”. Adjusting this toggle with the main Frequency and filter controls allow for the creating of numerous settings, which you can keep on file and switch at a moment’s notice. To add to all this, there’s an expression pedal input you may use to control the resonance on the fly, allowing even more spontaneous creativity and setting switching in mere seconds.

Unique and robust as always, Fairfield Circuitry continues to innovate and create new and exciting pieces of gear for us all to explore and drool over, and the Four Eyes Fuzz is absolutely no exception. If you’re can’t make your way up to Québec, Canada to see these guys for yourself, make sure to head over to their website for more info on this and all of their other fantastic creations. Thanks again, guys, for sending this rad fuzz our way, we can’t wait to review more of your pedals in the near future!
