cast engineering texas flood overdriveFor me, the words “Texas Flood” bring one thing immediately to mind: the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughn. Not just the man himself, but that classic Screamer tone he is known for, one that many, many of us have tried in some form to replicate. Today’s pedal, the aptly named Texas Flood Overdrive from Cast Engineering, takes that original tone and builds on it, adding in some more low end and still maintaining the sound that SRV came to be famous for.

Level, Drive and Tone make up the control section of the Texas Flood, as is to be expected. There’s a nice amount of volume output on tap, for making sure everyone hears your ripping solo during your cover band’s version of “Cold Shot”. The Tone knob works wonders here, bringing that lower, dirtier drive sound that Stevie had dialed in, but also with the ability to crank up the treble a bit, for a more biting, crystal clean lead tone.

Rounding out these three control knobs is the Drive, which is really the meat and potatoes of the Texas Flood. When dialed back, this pedal produces a clean boost that will send your guitar’s tone into the “Strat”-osphere (hehe), perfect for leads and solos, or just to stand out in the mix a little bit better. At medium setting, you get a warm and smokey sound, with a hint of drive that will push your tube amp just enough to give your tone some beef. Crank it up, and there’s a dirty, gritty overdrive that pops up out of nowhere, perfect for adding crunch and punch to your sound with a simple knob twist.

With a couple more pedal models on the way shortly, the folks at Cast Engineering are slowly making a name for themselves, and we’re excited to be a part of their company’s growth. Check back soon for more reviews of their gear, making sure you go peruse their website while you wait, and see what else they’ve got coming up (and pick up a Texas Flood of your own!). Thanks again to Chris and crew for sending this rocker our way for a review, can’t wait for more Cast Engineering pedals to show up on our doorstep!

  1. This pedal sucks . The boss bd 2 blues overdrive blows this pedal away . They claim to give you the SRV tone. That’s a crock. Selling mine and getting another boss blues pedal .half the price and way better tone . And don’t send emails to me .

  2. Im no Lovepedal fanboy,… but the Super Six Stevie Ray mod Yellow and White striped gave me the tone I only heard SRV (or Hendrix) play, or fantasized in my head! WILL NEVER SELL IT AND STOPPED ME ON what seemed like an never-ending quest, and finding new uses months later in changing around the settings.
