Sometimes, you want a fairly straight-forward, easy to manage fuzz, that just adds in enough power and oomph to your guitar tone to give it a little grit and gusto. Other times, you want a fuzz that is unpredictable, crazy, innovative and spectacular, one that opens up your mind and expands your musical library. Today’s pedal is most definitely the latter, a giant beautiful mess of blips, squawks and bleeps, complete with a heaviness and buzzsaw quality that we all seek in a great fuzz. Volume, Squash, Filter and Boost are the only controls present here, and while that would appear to be a fairly easy set of knobs to grasp, it isn’t. There’s loads of Volume on tap here, so no worries about anyone hearing you, either in the club you’re playing this weekend, or several miles away. The Squash control acts as a sort of noise gate, creating gorgeous and glitchy stutter-step fuzz bursts, perfect for off-the-cuff fuzzy experimentation.

The Filter and Boost controls create their own waves of sonic mutilation, octave pitch manipulation and synth-intuitive tones for days. These two knobs interact with each other first, then play off of the Squash control as well, making the pedal on a whole extremely interactive and user-intuitive. Perfect for those of us who love knob-twisting and sound sculpting, the Sonik Fuzz is a fuzz unlike any other, but in the very best of ways.
