electro-harmonix nano pog polyphonic octave generatorHaving recently reviewed the POG2 and Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator pedals from Electro-Harmonix, I was eager to test out their newest octave offering, and see how it stood up to the aforementioned pedals. These little Nano POGs have been all the rage around the guitar world recently, I think mainly due to their smaller, more pedalboard-friendly size, which I was also quite pleased with. Let’s take a look and see how she stacks up against the big boys, shall we?

With the same control layout as the Micro POG (Dry, Sub Octave and Octave Up), it’s easy to see why this smaller version would be preferable, although with the limited amount of space inside, some of the popular modifications might not be possible, due to the lack of space available. But I digress….the Nano POG really is the PERFECT size pedal for ANY pedalboard, plus it has a tasty soft switch, which I absolutely cannot resist, which you’ll know if you’ve read my reviews before. The tracking on the Nano POG is incredible, too, making it easy to play chords without having them sound like a jumbled mess. You can easily conjure up a 12-string guitar sound, as well as some low-end beef to get a pseudo-bass tone, too. The real fun for me is the organ(ic) sounds you can achieve with ease, opening up a ton of musical possibilities to explore, create and astonish both yourself and your audience with.

Much like it’s predecessor, the Nano POG is still a brilliant polyphonic octave generator, with all the pizazz and gusto of the Micro POG, but without the bigger footprint on your pedalboard. If you’re looking for a small enclosure with big sound to spice up your boring old drive-and-delay rig, this is the pedal to do it, especially if you’re in need of saving some real estate on your board. If you happen to be one of 4 guitar players out there who have never checked out the Electro-Harmonix website, do yourself a favor and get over there now…and if you have been there before, you should probably do the same thing anyway!
