In this crazy world of pedal reviewing, I have been extremely fortunate enough to come across some incredible pedals from smaller manufacturers that I probably wouldn’t have even heard of otherwise. Since the market is so competitive, I’m lucky to be able to befriend these builders, and help try to get the word out about their pedals to as many musicians as possible, through all the avenues that are available for Pedal of the Day. One of these such companies is Pusher Pedals in new jersey, and today we’re going to check out the Dirty Darling, one of the first two pedals in their lineup.
The controls on the Dirty Darling say Loud and Fuzz, but make no mistake, this pedal is basically a 3-in-1. How can that be, you might ask, with only 2 controls? Surely you’d need more to create sounds for three different effects, right? Wrong. This little guy will do a tasty, warm and welcoming overdrive, a push-it-just-over-the-top distortion and a tasty, smooth fuzz, all with loads of volume on tap to make sure everyone, even the folks in the back row’s faces are melted during your set.
It basically comes down to turning the Fuzz knob to your specific drive setting, then adjusting the Loud knob to taste. Even at high volumes, the Dirty Darling retains clarity and crispness, cutting through the mix and delivering the goods with gusto. Add a boost on the front end, or a little quick delay or reverb on the back, and you’ve got a huge palette of noise to work with and craft, ensuring smiling faces throughout the crowd (or, better yet, your bandmates!). This really is a plug-in-and-play pedal, with not a bad sound to be found (trust me, I looked).
As exciting as this pedal is, Steven at Pusher Pedals informed me that they are releasing a combo 2-in-1 pedal, featuring this bad boy and their Leap of Faith Boost, which I couldn’t be more excited about. Check back soon for the review on that guy when it’s released, and while you wait impatiently, go check out their site and pick up a pedal of two to tide you over. Cheers and thanks to everyone in the Garden State at Pusher Pedals for sending this Dirty Darling for us to check out, we can’t wait to hear what comes next!
