Who loves the famous Klon Centaur? Alright, maybe we all do on some level. But seriously, not many of us lowly guitarists have $1,500-$2,500 to spend on an entire rig, much less on ONE LONE PEDAL. Output, Treble and Gain are the controls you’d expect from a klone-type pedal, otherwise it wouldn’t really mimic the original, right? There’s plenty of volume to be had here, which is always welcome in a boost pedal, as you never really know how much you’ll need for any given live or studio situation. The Gain gives a nice drive tone when it’s cranked, with gorgeous sustain and just the right amount of grit. When dialed back, it really lets the clean boost sounds come shining through, adding a hint of crunch, but not overpowering the boost, and really letting your amp sing.
The Treble knob is the star of the Archer Ikon, as it usually is in these kinds of pedals, and will go from a darker, warmer tone up to just a fantastic-sounding treblefest, complete with a little amp driving and lead tones that will make your audience melt in your hands. This is what the Klon’s are known for, and this is why you’re buying this pedal in the first place. Although the Gain sounds great when mixed with this Treble knob, too, so there are really a bunch of options to choose from here, and none that you’ll be disappointed about.
Now, there are a lot of Klone pedals out there, as they’re in demand and are usually great sellers…if you can make a good one. I have played a lot of these pedals, and the Archer Ikon is right up there among the best of ’em, hands down.
