The Black Tiger Delay Device is a relatively simple delay, but has great tone, like all Greer pedals, and provides the perfect amount of tone-enhancement to make your rig really stand out.

Feedback, Time and Mix are the relatively standard controls here on the Black Tiger, and it features an analog signal path with a digital repeater circuit, conjuring up vintage tape and oil can delay sounds with ease. The delay trails have a little grit and grime to them, adding to the pedal’s vintage sound, and there’s even a Trails footswitch, which allows the delay to trail off longer, while not allowing any inout signal when engaged. This feature works really well when the Time is set higher, making the delays longer and longer.

With the controls all dialed in to around noon, the Black Tiger exudes a lush blanket of delay over your original tone, with a relatively quick feedback amount and a lot of overall tonal warmth. Dialing back both the Feedback and Time knobs will produce a rich, short, echo delay, almost a pseudo-reverb of sorts, adding just a hint of ambience to your playing. Crank up the Time for longer delays, and add more Feedback to get into some wicked self-oscillation territory quickly, when turned up past the white dot indicator (nice touch, guys, love it!).

As far as a first delay is concerned, I think it’s safe to say the Greer Amps has produced a fine piece of musical gear, and hopefully they will build on it to create bigger and badder delays in the future. With vintage tones, wicked oscillation and delay for everything from chick’n pickin’ to detailed swells, the Black Tiger Delay Device will put a big fat smile on your face, and the faces of those in the crowd as well.
