I love a good reverb that can add presence to your sound, but not overpower it – unless, of course, that’s what you want it to do. A good mix of controls and toggle switches is always a plus in my book for ANY type of pedal, really, but there’s something about a small box reverb that’s made really well that just brings your whole attitude about playing guitar to new levels, and today’s pedal did just that for me as soon as I plugged it in and messed with it for 10 minutes. May I present to you, ladies and gentlemen, the HSR-3 Reverb from Lovepedal.

For starters, there are four in the main control section of the HSR-1: Mix, Decay, Predelay and Tone. Mix effectively mixed your wet and dry signals together to taste, while Decay adjusts the dwell amount of the reverb effect. Predelay is a cool knob, as it basically controls how long it takes the note to leave your guitar, then hit the invisible wall and create the reverberated sound, very fun to mess around with this guy. Finally, the Tone knob adds highs or lows to the reverb, depending on which direction you turn it, always a welcome site on any reverb pedal.

There are three separate Modes to the HSR-1, too, creating vastly different blankets of tone that lay over your guitar’s original sound. Hall produces some big, boomy-type reverbs, making for spacious, cavernous decays abound. The next mode is Shimmer, always a fun one, and it takes your dry signal and bumps it up an octave, for creating some crazy experimental sounds with ease. Lastly, the Modulate mode ups the reverb ante, with an array of swirling sounds and modulated reverbs that you might have never thought possible before.

The HSR-1 is a simple to use reverb, with a wide selection of options from a relatively small control section. The Modes switch really lights this pedal up, and will allow the user to switch between a multitude of tones with ease, which works especially well for on-stage switching. Sean and Lovepedal continue to put out fantastic gear year after year, so go check out all they have to offer on their website, and look for our review of the DS-1 Digital Delay coming soon as well!
