As you may or may not have figured out by now, we here at Pedal of the Day are BIG fans of Nick and Greer Amps, and love it when a new pedal of theirs shows up on the doorstep. Today’s pedal seems to have flown a bit under the radar, as you can’t even purchase it on their website (I had to search to find this one used), which makes it all the more interesting: today’s gem of a pedal is the Peacemaker Dual Class A Transistor Distortion.
While this pedal’s official title is a “distortion”, it feels and sounds much more like an overdrive/boost to me, although it can get pretty crunchy when cranked. With only two controls knobs, it’s a really simple piece of gear to use, and great sounds can be dialed in within minutes of first turning it on. The Power and Preamp knobs represent two unique gain stages, and work well solo or running together. This pedal is capable of doing a great clean boost if you want it to, but the real power and fun of it lies when both knobs are cranked to at least noon, and the further right you keep turning them, the more growl, grit and distortion you’ll be able to conjure up, until your amp is singing with overdrive and sparkling with tone.
In doing my research for this pedal, I discovered that there seems to be an earlier version of this, a big, hand-painted(?) box with chicken knobs and hand-written text. I personally like the deep gray color and compact size of this new version, and regardless of what it looks like, it sounds like a million bucks. If you need a little added sparkle and pizazz for you rig, you really should give the Peacemaker from Greer Amps a go.
