jhs pedals superbolt overdriveKeeping with tradition, JHS Pedals continues to pump out great-sounding overdrives left and right, and today’s pedal is no exception to that seemingly unbreakable rule. Roughly based on the classic Supro amplifiers of the 1960’s, the SuperBolt has grit, grime and dirt, as well as a boatload of sensitivity, dynamics and patience as well. If you want to sound like Jimmy Page, but can’t afford that vintage amp, this is a great place to get that tone without hurting your wallet.

The SuperBolt boasts three main control knobs and a toggle switch, much like their Morning Glory or Moonshine pedals, but with a character and uniqueness all its own. Volume starts off the party by acting as an overall master volume control, which works in partnership with the Drive knob for some sweet tones (more on that in a minute), and it great for getting sick dirty tones without blowing away everyone’s eardrums, which is always an important task. The Tone knob is also special, as it keeps the lows clear and the highs mellow, something that can be hard to accomplish for a lot of tone controls. There’s a wide sonic range in this knob, sure to present an awesome sound setting with just a couple of tweaks, depending on your style of play. The Drive knob really makes this pedal stand out, as it can do anything from jazz leads and chords to barely crunched amp sounds to sustaining, lush, vintage rock and roll, with minimal effort, I might add. Crank this and adjust the Volume to taste, and you’re going to have some happy fans.

There’s also a little toggle switch for more fun and adventures! This guy is a Hi/Lo toggle, and reflects the different inputs of many classic amplifiers, resulting in 2 completely differing tones. With the switch up, it’s time to rock, plain and simple. An internal conversion ups the regular 9v to 18v, producing an insane amount of headroom and in-your-face sounds, and when the toggle is Hi, so is your guitar’s tone. Downstairs, in the Lo section, everything smoothes out a bit, with less grit and dirt, and more clean, balanced musical landscapes, making for a super easy-going vibe and great attention to your playing attack.

Great for kicking you amp into high gear, plays great with the vast majority of pedals you can throw at it, and works wonders recreating some classic rock tones of the past. The SuperBolt is simple to use, but holds many options and sounds inside, waiting for you to come in and find each and every one of them. JHS Pedals keeps knocking ’em out of the park, so if for some reason you haven’t checked out their site and seen all the rad gear they’ve got for you, make sure to do it, like, now.
