Fuchs Audio Technology Plush Valve Job Overdrive

The gang over at Fuchs Audio Technology are really well-known for making incredible amplifiers. Incredible. That said, their line of Plush effects pedals has been killing it quietly alongside those amps for years, and today’s pedal sort of combines the two. The Plush Valve Job Overdrive is basically an amp in a pedal, and while it might not be a Dumble, it will make you and your playing sound better than you thought possible.

For starters, right when you see this thing, one aspect immediately leaps right out: it actually uses a REAL TUBE! That’s right, it’s displayed as clear as day right smack dab in the middle of the Valve Job for all to see, and it definitely adds a little bit of sparkle and shine to the sound, for sure. Gain, Tone and Level are all pretty standard overdrive controls, but there’s another gem of a knob here as well: the Touch knob. This unique control adjusts the amount of sensitivity places on the strings, depending how hard you strum or pluck them, allowing you to dial in the right amount specifically for your own style of playing.

There’s great range in this pedal as well, especially in regards to the Gain control. You can do a mellow, smooth low-drive sound, you can crank it and get some nicely saturated, sustain-filled notes and chords, and a whole lot more in between. It also plays nicely with other pedals, so you can kick on a boost or other drive pedal in conjunction with the Valve Job to really push it into that sweet, overdriven amp-style tone.

While I sure would love to be able to afford a Full House 50 or and Overdrive Supreme, it’s just not in the cards at the moment, as it is with many musicians throughout the world. However, for a couple hundred bucks, you can SOUND like you have the real thing, and the Plush Valve Job does not disappoint in that department.
