The first version of the Silver Rose Mega-Fuzz from Devi Ever garnered much attention from fuzzheads everywhere, and has been a sought-after pedal for some time, especially due to its ties to Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. With a couple tweaks and an updated design/layout, the new version of the Silver Rose is a mammoth of a fuzz, and is able to create basically any fuzz sound you could want, plus some you haven’t even discovered yet.
Pedals like these with so many switches and optional combinations are the most fun to sit down with yourself and mess around with for 2 or 3 days straight, so we’re going to run through the layout and functionality, and you can check out the video below to get a small glimpse into what this beast can do. The left side is based on the Dwarfcraft Devices’ Eau Claire Thunder Fuzz, and features Volume, Tone and Gain controls. It also has a few toggles (Warp, which gets into sludgy, stoner-rock territory, and a Tone cut switch as well) for more options and tonal possibilities. Both great overdrive and fuzz tones can be found here when this side is running on it’s own
The right side is the Super Fuzz side, which is just a ballsy fuzz that apologizes to no one. Volume and Gain controls also adorn this side, as does a Bias knob, which is great for adding compression or sustain, depending on which way you turn it. Working together with the other 2 knobs, there are once again seemingly endless sonic possibilities abound, and the fuzz is thick and gooey, just like you like it. As a bonus, there’s a Mids switch here, too, which helps produce some dark and dirty overtones when flipped. Cool.
The Silver Rose also features an EQ section, complete with simple Treble and Bass knobs, that you can switch on or off to your delight, and is capable of boosting both frequencies up to 10dB! If that wasn’t enough, there’s a second output specifically for your Clean signal, which is also controllable and able to produce an 11x boost, which should be plenty for almost everyone, right? Run your fuzz to one amp and your clean signal to another, for a sonic adventure in beautiful stereo sound.
Basically, there is unlimited fuzz tone in the Silver Rose, and if you can’t find some sound you like using this pedal, you probably don’t actually like fuzz. From smooth overdriven sounds to walls of buzzsaws and hornets, this pedal will delight and surprise you around every new sonic turn. Thanks so much AGAIN to the wonderful folks at Devi Ever FX / Dwarfcraft Devices for letting me explore this gorgeous fuzz pedal – if you don’t know about the incredible machines they’re producing in the great state of Wisconsin, you need to go check them out immediately, if not sooner.
