Rainbows and Unicorns are known to be magical, especially in the realm of musical instruments (no duh). But let’s not get caught into rainbows at the moment… Unicorns, yes unicorns can often be found in the wild land of “Hendrix,” but the Unicorn can be tamed and domesticated for much subtler uses too. JHS has produced a modern *Uni-vibe* device which is reviving the nearly “extinct” species. With modern accouterments and a bulb driven circuit, JHS provides all the Mojo in a reliable and quality sounding pedal. Truly magical!
Uni-vibe needs to be experienced to be truly explained, so I’m not gonna go into that. Although, I am gonna get into why you need this one. Based on my experience with other Uni-vibe pedals, the JHS Unicorn is above and beyond. First of all, it’s the first bulb-driven Uni-vibe in a pedal format- ever. As a result, the Unicorn sounds so natural and organic, it’s so stinking easy to find a “sweet spot.” Further more, the added tap-tempo foot-switch enables the user to sweep through tempos on the fly, which alters the complete vibe of the effect; go from a whirling filter, to a Rotary-ish warble. The Unicorn is downright quality! So much fun, creativity, and magic to be had in this pedal.
Depth, Speed (and tap switch), Tap Division, and Volume controls enable all the tweak-ability the user could ever need. In addition, the Wet/Dry toggle switch completely changes the effect. In the dry position, you have a quality and well recognizable Uni-vibe effect. In the Wet position you get a more vibrato-type effect with a slight Uni-vibe characteristic- psychedelic enough for the modulation junkies. From subtle to intense, from Cheetah-like speed to like bicyclists without a dedicated bike lane at rush hour, the JHS Unicorn provides a great amount of versatility. With so many ways to use it, the Unicorn can find a home with you. With all that’s been done and repeated, JHS has recreated a favorite classic effect which inspires new music and new fun.
