Throughout this awesome pedal review journey I’ve been on, I am always impressed when I come across a company that might not be really well-known, or is kind of flying under the radar, but putting out some incredible-sounding gear. Big Lloyde from Loon Lake, WA is one of these companies, and the F-6 Overdrive is most certainly a pedal that needs to be heard by the masses.
As far as the controls for the F-6 are concerned, they start off pretty basic, with Level and Drive knobs starting things off. There’s plenty of headroom here, and the Level will go from a subtle boost up to a scorching decibel enhancer, making it not only able to beef up a great tone, but able to also boost your guitar’s signal to ensure cutting through any mix is never an issue. The Drive control has a great sweep of tonal possibilities, too, and will do a clean boost like nobody’s business, but can also go right to a warm and creamy overdrive with a flick of your wrist.
The EQ is also bad-ass here, and features 3 separate controls, not 1 Tone knob or 2 Treble and Bass like you might usually find in other OD’s. The F-6 sports a third control besides those: a Mid Shape knob. This, when worked into the dynamics of the other controls, allows for an intense and surprising range of tonal possibilities. With an overdrive like this, it’s possible to conjure up almost any drive sound you can think of, and half the fun is discovering how these controls all interact and affect one another, and how they can vastly improve and help to specifically shape the sound you’re looking for.
The folks at Big Lloyde only have 2 pedals in production currently, and if the F-6 is any indication of what’s to come, I am looking forward to more. Their other pedal is the TC-3 Compressor, which looks equally as enthralling as the F-6, so look for a review of that coming your way in the near future. Thanks to Justin and everyone at Big Lloyde for giving us a shot at reviewing the F-6 – can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for us all next.
