The stompboxes being put out over at Hungry Robot Pedals have really been coming on strong as of late, and their Hungry Robot Dual Overdrive is not likely to leave my board anytime soon. As for today’s review, HRP’s first foray into the world of delay is a good one, a no frills, basic delay that echoes (no pun intended) the tape machines and analog delays of ages past.
Although the Moby Dick emulates the sounds and tones of classic tape delay pedals, it mixes in some modern improvements and features to really make it a useable and sonically stunning piece of equipment. First off, it features 1000ms of delay time, much more than your typical classic analog delay ever had to offer. Another modern feature is the ability to switch between three different subdivisions (Quarter, Dotted-Eighth and Eighth), for even more options and sonic textures to lay over your original guitar signal. These 2 controls work together to form the basis of your delayed sound, and you can even control the tempo of the delayed signal with either the onboard soft switch OR an external tap of your choice.
The Mix knob usually just blends the Wet signal in with the Dry, which it does here, too, but it also gives a bit of a boost in volume to the repeats when it’s turned up past 3/4. This, when mixed with the Repeats knob, leads to some wacky exploration and self-oscillation sounds when maxed out. Plus, there’s a Modulation knob, which is meant to copy the sounds made by the old classic tape machines. Although present, this feature was designed specifically to be placed in the back of the mix, so even when it’s cranked up, the modulated tone is still pretty subtle, and gives off just a hint of tape echo. Nothing too over-the-top, just a cool modulation to add to an already warm vintage analog delay sound.
My favorite thing about this particular pedal I own is that Eric threw the Pedal of the Day logo onto it for me, so it’s a true one-of-a-kind that I will keep in my collection forever. Thanks for that, man, I sure appreciate it! Overall, the Moby Dick is a truly warm and analogIf you want to know more about this pedal, or any of the other great stompboxes that Hungry Robot Pedals are putting out, be sure to stop by their website today!

Hi!
This pedal is full analog or is analog voiced?

It’s an analog signal path, with the tone falling somewhere between a tape delay and an analog delay. Cheers!
