There are a lot of choices when it comes to how you can get a reverberated signal these days for guitar players: some simple, some overly complex and some that fall somewhere in the middle of the sonic spectrum. Although the pedals with tons of bells and whistles can be super-fun, and definitely have their place in today’s pedalboard arsenals, it’s nice to kick back with a basic reverb pedal that just focuses on great sound, and doing one thing really well. That’s why I’m here to chat about the Magnifica Reverb from FoxPedal.

At first glance, the Magnifica is visually calming and relaxing, with its mountain/lake view overlay and flying bird graphic. You can SEE right away that this pedal is going to produce some spacey, ambient sounds…and then you HEAR it, and all that is confirmed.

Going from a slight, subtle, tone-coloring sound to a fully washed and saturated reverb, the Magnifica is an easy-to-use, fully-bodied reverb pedal, and although the controls may seem simple (which they are), there are many ambient sounds to be coaxed from its hand-wired innards. Another trick up this pedal’s sleeve is that there’s always some tiny bit of effect, so when you turn it on, even all the way down, there’s still a hint of reverb always present, however miniscule and faint, which I tend to enjoy here.

When the Feedback and Reverb knobs are turned all the way up, a gorgeous oscillation sound washes right over the top of your instrument’s signal, producing some unique and colorful tones. The Feedback knob actually feeds the signal back into itself, which accounts for the ease of ambience and echo when twisting and turning all three knobs. The Tone control works with the others as well, from a warmer, amp-like verb to a shiny, shimmering crisp reverb sound.

FoxPedal continues to produces quality pedals, made by hand and with lots of attention to detail, and the Magnifica is a perfect example of the kind of gear they are currently putting out for us. Like I said before, if you want 400 different reverb sound options, look somewhere else. If you’re looking for a simple but powerful and sonically stunning reverb in pedal form, look no further than this awesome piece of musical gear.
