A pedal this size is bound to be intimidating, at least a little, to even the most experienced of pedal users (even me). However, The Swell Reverb/Delay from Midnight 30 Music takes a couple of great pedals and combines them into one great-looking enclosure, allowing you to mix-n-match tones and sonic soundscapes every and any which way you choose to, with great depth, clarity and presence.
The first pedal on the far left is the Serenity Reverb, which has become a favorite amongst reverb enthusiasts across the country. This portion features Reverb, Feedback, Tone and Ghost controls, which make for a great reverb tone through a nice, clean amp. Next up is the Starry Night Delay, which has controls for Time, Mix, Madness and Feedback. Time and Mix you know, and Feedback controls the number of repeats, but the Madness control is really fun. This is controlled by another footswitch, and when pressed down and held, sends the delayed signal into outer space and beyond, with some really cool oscillation and trippy tones. Finally, we have the M30 Delay, which is a basic delay in terms of layout, but this one features a Depth control for modulation, which makes for a whole new set of interesting sounds and settings.
When you combine 2, or even all 3, of the different pedals on the Swell at once, the sonic possibilities are truly endless. You can conjure up rich, warm delays coupled with a clean, crisp reverb, then add in some modulation for a warbled, double-delay effect – the combos are seriously awesome, and there’s not a bad setting on this pedal, anywhere. It’s nice to have such versatility in one pedal, where you can use as little or as much of these 3 effects as you need. Another great piece of gear from Midnight 30 Music – make sure you go see what else they’ve got in store for you.
