Delays have long been a favorite effect of mine, and I always like to see pedal companies take them in new and interesting directions. Red Witch Pedals has done just that with the first pedal in their new Chrome series: the Violetta Delay. Though it looks small, this little shiny beauty has a lot of options and great sounds sure to please any delay fan.
If you’re looking for space-saving pedals, the Violetta is the way to go. I like how the Input/Output jacks are on the top of the pedal, too, making it easy to fit into the tightest spot on your pedalboard. It also packs a whopping 1000ms of delay time into this tiny enclosure, making it powerful as well. Delay, Repeat and Mix are normal controls on most delays, but the Violetta also offers a Modulation control. This affects the delay repeats, and has a wonderful range, going from a slight shimmer to an all-out classic tape echo flutter, and lots of variation between the two.
Another option featured here is the Expression pedal jack on the side, which is used to control the Repeats. This jack accepts an 1/8″ plug, but Red Witch provides a right-angle adapter in the box, so you can plug in a normal 1/4″ plug, and use any expression pedal you choose (it worked great with my Moog EP-3).
The Violetta will do everything from slap back rockabilly to crazy, self-oscillation pulses, and pretty much whatever else you can think of to throw at it. This is a great innovation in the Red Witch lineup, and is sure to produce more similarly-themed and sized pedals in the near future. Thanks to everyone at Red Witch Pedals for sending this across the ocean to us for a review – if you haven’t checked out all the effects they have to offer, do yourself a favor and get to it now!
