I have used this pedal since the first ver maybe 6-7 years ago. I currently have ver.3 on my board and i could not be happier. It is a two channel overdrive/distortion pedal. A footswitch to switch between the green and red channel. I am mostly on the green channel and only step to red for searing leads. It has a very open sounding nature to it and compression starts to set in in the higher gain setting of the red channel. It sounds ok at bed room levels and really it begins to shine at band level.
The 7thvn cuts through the mix like a hot knife all the way from the low gain level settings. It has a sweet sounding disposition with highs that are not piercing and mids that are musical. The number of knobs can seem a little intimidating, but when you understand them, you will feel a need for every single one of them. I play from Folk Blues to Post Hardcore and this pedal is an essential for all my set ups so far. It may get a little too bright with already bright guitars or with amos with a bright cap(I think most pedals sound bad that way), but like most flat level, mid level frequency guitars, it is amazing.
It is musical, useable, responsive and sounds great in recordings. Balls to the walls to sweet sounding blues. It does it all for me and my session work.
