Mad Professor Amplification Sweet Honey Overdrive

Last year when I was reconfiguring my pedalboard for sessions and touring, a friend recommended this pedal to me, and I will say up front, it has become one of my favorite “go to” pedals. The Sweet Honey Overdrive (SHOD) is a light to mid gain overdrive based on the BJF Honey Bee design and is one of the most dynamic and touch sensitive pedals I’ve ever used.

Three knobs (Volume, Drive, Focus) where the Focus knob is not “tone” as one might expect, but actually affects the dynamics/sensitivity of the pedal. Lower Focus settings, you have to pick harder to get it to break up so you can dig in and just get that bit of crunch, or on higher settings, it gives a slight treble boost and easier overdrive where picking harder brings rich response!

I use this pedal a lot, and because it is low/mid gain and so dynamic, it stacks great with other pedals. For example, I’ll use just the SHOD with Drive and Focus set around 11 o’clock for that nice, open, country or classic rock vibe. I also stack pedals often and stacking the SHOD into something like my Analogman Prince Of Tone set on Boost mode, it sounds full and clear like pushing an amp really hard a la early Allman Brothers.
The pedal comes in a hand-wired or factory version.

Users: Jacob Peterson (Steve Miller Band), Rich Eckhardt (Toby Keith), Eddie Heinzelman (Radney Foster)
