Tremolos are one of my favorite pedals, and they can have the most subtle or powerful effect on your signal, depending what it is you’re after. The Honey Comb Deluxe from JHS Pedals is a really simple as tremolos go, since some can get overly complex and gadgety, but it is a great effect in it’s own right, too, and the tonal quality oozing out of this yellow box is second to none.
The Honey Comb Deluxe is actually TWO pedals in one…sort of. A 2nd footswitch next to the on/off button allows you to jump between 2 different tremolo speeds in real time, without having to bend over and adjust anything manually. This operation is key for a live setting, and can be invaluable for important song changes and tempo differentials. The “always on” flashing speed LED is great for knowing exactly what tempo you’re on, and what is gonna come through your amp when you hit bypass switch to turn it on. A Volume knob let you add as much of the effect into your signal as you want, another great option, and the Depth controls the slightness or intensity of the Tremolo effect on your sound. The analog tones pouring out of the Honey Comb sound just fantastic, and rival any tremolo pedal on the market. There’s even an internal switch that lets you control the range of the 2 speed knobs: you can use the stock setting, or flick the switch for a slower range of sounds. This is an extremely diverse pedal fro only having a few control knobs, and will save a lot of space on your pedalboard as well.
The only thing I miss on this tremolo is the option for an expression pedal to control the overall speed, but with 2 separate settings, you’re pretty much going to be able to dial in what you need and leave it at that. Nothing fancy, just a great-sounding, analog tremolo pedal from one of the best builders around.
