Walrus Audio makes some really great effects pedals, and continue to push the boundaries with the new, inventive gear they’ve come out with recently. The Mayflower Overdrive is one of their staple pedals, and a favorite for anyone who wants to add a little crunch and beef to their sound.
Like all Walrus pedals, the Mayflower is as tough, rugged and sturdy as you get, with a beautiful blue enclosure with more of the great graphic prints that make their gear so easily recognizable. Right in the meaty spot relative to Walrus’ Voyager Drive and Iron Horse Distortion, the Mayflower provides a gorgeous overdriven tone, and is a great compliment to a boost or fuzz pedal on either side of it in your signal chain. Warm, biting drive tones are easily achievable here, with the separate Treble and Bass controls to help shape your sound to work with your amp, pedals and pickups. The Drive control knob has a nice range as well, allowing for everything from a small amount of crunch to a raging, crisp and powerful overdrive, bordering on distortion and fuzz when maxed out, but still ringing clear and sweet without too much harshness.
