The Scarlett Love Overdrive (V2) from Selah Effects came to me all the way from Australia, and let me tell you, friends, it’s worth the wait. This is a big, thick, meaty pedal housed in a small enclosure, but will provide you and your guitar with all the gain and drive you can handle, and then push you a little bit further.

Gain, Tone and Volume make up the control knobs on the Scarlett Love, and each has a considerable amount of range in them. The Gain, especially, can go from a nice clean boost-ish sound all the way up to an all-out sonic extravaganza for your ears, as long as they don’t get blown out, ‘cuz this puppy gets LOUD. The Tone has a vast array of tones as well, from murky, deep lows to beefy mids and up to singing highs to carry your sound to the farthest corner of the room and back again. Another fantastic option is the 3-Way toggle switch, which goes between the Plexi, TubeScreamer and Diode Lift options, each one providing their own unique color and shape to this great little pedal. And the tones coming out on all of these settings and configurations are simply marvelous, with enough oomph to cut through any mix, but not giving off any unnecessary shrieks or shifts, just great sounds to help push your amp into sweet sonic bliss.

Starting with all the knobs at 12:00, you get an immediate feel for the pedal, but there are surprises in store, for sure. Turn the Gain down to around 10:00, and that’s where the nice, clean boost shows up. Turn it up to around 2:00, and this pedal really starts to show its teeth. One more turn of the knob to full blast, and look out! Gain for days, smooth sustain and warm individual picked notes throughout all the settings on the Scarlett Love. Not a bad setting in the bunch, really, and the versatility with the 3-way toggle is a special treat on its own.

The folks at Selah Effects were generous enough to donate this pedal to us for review, and I just can’t thank them enough. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do some more collaborations in the near future, because I really dig this pedal, and if it’s any indication of what else they’re producing down under, sign me up immediately.
