The Cloud 9 Reverb is the flagship pedal from Sky Pedals, and it has grown in popularity immensely over a relatively short period of time. Highly sought after online, the Cloud 9 has become an industry standard reverb, and with good reason. A seemingly simple layout leads to an actually complex but easy to manage effect, and it produces some gorgeous reverb as well.
What’s nice about the Cloud 9 right off the bat is the layout. Four knobs, two switches, done-and-done. Once you look closer and realize how this pedal works, though, you see that Sky Pedals has tricked you into purchasing a killer reverb pedal, when you might have thought you were getting a boring one. The Verb knob controls how much of the effect is mixed in with your guitar’s dry signal, starting off with little to no effect, and ranging all the way up to some huge, room-filling lush reverb tones. The Trails knob adjusts how long the decayed reverb signal lasts after you pluck a note, basically a Length control. The Highs are pretty much your Tone control, again starting out low and subdued, but with range to get nice and high and bright, a bit punchy, even. But this pedal’s shining feature is the Shift knob, which acts as a 2ND reverb setting. This means that you essentially have 2 reverbs in one pedal, and can flip-flop between them at your leisure. Now, the main Reverb switch must be on in order for the Shift switch to be able to be used, but there’s a good chance the main side will be on all the time anyway, am I right? Big, bold, cavernous reverb is what this pedal can produce, and it does a great job of laying back in the mix and adding just a touch of sparkle to your guitar signal as well.
This being Sky Pedals‘ only product currently, we’re all going to have to wait around and see what comes next. But if future products are as rad as the Cloud 9 Reverb, we’ll all be enjoying this company’s treasures for a long time.
