The Hungry Robot Dual Overdrive by, well, Hungry Robot Pedals is sick. I’m a sucker for dual-whatever pedals in general, and this guy is no exception. One side is a nice, light overdrive, one side a bit heavier, and the two in combination are an overdriven dream.
The Lou Drive starts us off on the left side, featuring Volume, Grit and Tone controls. Sporting a huge range and massive headroom, the Lou Drive can drive you amp as a clean boost, or make it a little dirty with a twist of the Gain knob. A nice, light-ish overdrive that won’t wake up the neighbors (but it probably could if you really pushed it!). On the right, the Blue Moon, which isa unique design in today’s overdrive world, featuring only ONE knob, but TWO toggle switches. The solo knob is strictly for gain and output, which are simple enough, but the beauty of this side lies in the toggles. The Saturation switch goes from a smooth overdriven sound to an all-out nasally, aggressive tone. The Bright toggle allows you to go from a pretty flat and balanced EQ section to a sharp, bright, sparkle-type boost, adding a bit of treble and punch into your tone.
As with any dual drive pedal, when you turn both of the sides on together, that’s where the magic really starts to happen. The Dual Overdrive from Hungry Robot Pedals is yet another boutique overdrive pedal, but one that has very unique characteristics, and a tight, innovative design unmatched by any other. They’ve got a couple of other pedals in production at the moment as well – be sure to stop by their site and see what new stuff awaits you!
