The EarthQuaker Devices Dispatch Master was the first pedal I ever bought, and it is still on my board today. It is a DSP based reverb/delay combo with decent analog voicing.
On the left are reverb and mix knobs, allowing you to dial in how much decay you want, and how the pedal is blended with your dry signal. I tend to lean toward ambient soundscapes, so this reverb is almost always on, and always set to be very prominent. The mix goes up to a 50/50 blend, and the reverb is capable of a very deep, hall style sound. On the right are repeats and time, which allow you to set the delay time and number of repeats. It can stretch out to about a second of delay, and near infinite repeats without self oscillating.
The pedal is capable of some really cool sounds, and can be manipulated in interesting ways. If you turn the time knob to 0, you can still use the repeats knob to shape the tone of reverb a little bit. Also, if you move the time knob with the pedal engaged, you can get some really cool warped sounds, like in older analog pedals. Each effect is usable on its own, but the real money lies in the sound it produces with both sides engaged. I use it to hide the gaps in my lead work, and it helps add so much to my sound, even at subtle settings.
I have A/B’d the Dispatch Master with other popular digital reverb and delay units, and it holds up well. It has more of a warm, liquidy sound than the Hall of Fame, but less convincing repeats than dedicated delay units. For the price, it’s hard to beat having two effects in a small box that add so much support for your sound. If you are looking for an always-on pedal to add some depth to your guitar work, this could be exactly what you need.
