Walrus Audio Deep Six Compressor

Compressors have always been hit or miss for me, and I haven’t really been able to keep one on my board for longer than about 2 months, before I got frustrated with it, or thought it was just taking up space where another pedal could thrive, or any number of reasons I concocted in my brain. That all changed when I met the compressor of my dreams, the Deep Six from Walrus Audio.

The best function in my opinion on this fantastic stompbox is the Blend control knob, which allows you to determine how much of the compressed signal is fed into your path, making it super-simple to find the perfect tone for your particular setup. It also makes it quite easy to dial OUT any unwanted noise or distortion from your clean sound – something not available on most compressors, which make them seem noisy and irritating. The Deep Six’s Sustain knob is a thing of beauty, and can go from a slight bit of punch to all-out gorgeous note holding for days. I’ve found that most compressors don’t really sustain very much, despite what the knob says, but the Deep Six knows it’s sustainability (get it?) and carries a boatload for you to work with. The Level knob does exactly what it should, and the Attack makes it easy to get the right sound out of the pedal based on your playing style, whether that is light, jazzy fingerpicking, or a heavy, hard-nosed pick attack.

The guys at Walrus Audio have really created something special in the Deep Six compressor, and more and more folks are starting to recognize this as a fact rather than an opinion. Being able to utilize almost any guitar/pickup setup is crucial to any compressors success, and this one works great with single-coils and humbuckers. Plus, it automatically boosts the internal voltage to 18V, making for a ton of headroom to really make your guitar’s sound shine and sparkle. Need a great compressor that plays well with others, is virtually silent and gives you all the squish and sustain you’re after? Look no further than the Walrus Audio Deep Six.
