eventide modfactor multi-effectEventide makes some pretty rad pedals. Complicated, but rad. Along the same general design lines as the incredible TimeFactor Delay and the Space Reverb comes the ModFactor Modulation pedal. This beast is capable of doing phaser, flanger, chorus, tremolo, vibrato, auto-wah, modfilter, rotary, undulator and ring mod sounds…and it does them well. Whew! Let’s get started, shall we?

The main modes for the ModFactor are as follows: Chorus (Liquid, Shimmer, Organic, Classic), Phaser (Negative, Positive, BiPhase, Feedback, PhaseX0), Wah (WahWah Q-Wah, Voc-Wah Q-Wah, Bass Wah, Bass Vocal Wah), Flanger (Positive, Negative, Jet, Thru-O), ModFilter (Lowpass, HiPass, BandPass), Rotary (Standard, Giant), Tremolo (Bias, Opto), Vibrato (Modern, Vintage, Retro), Undulator (Pitch, Feedback) and Ring Mod (DC Ring, AC String). Each mode is adjustable by a slew of control knobs, including Intensity, Type, Depth, Speed and Shape. Each of these modes stands up to any other pedal you can throw at it – the choruses are lush and full, the phaser and flanger sounds are classic and warm, the auto-wah stuff brings the funk, and all the different rotary modes make this pedal shine. A plethora of options to choose from, an enormous amount of soundscapes to create.

The only problem I can foresee some users having is that there are TOO MANY options for one pedal. Although you can scroll through the banks and presets relatively easily, it still might be a bit tricky to find the sound or mode you need on-the-fly in a live setting. Once you figure out how it can work for you, I bet it’s a breeze, it just seems like there’s a pretty descent learning curve involved. This pedal is fantastic for use in the studio, however, allowing you to meticulously dial in each and every sound you’re after, in each mode, and with so many options, the sonic possibilities are infinite. Eventide continues to push the boundaries of what we know about pedals and what they can do, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
