Walrus Audio‘s Voyager Overdrive has 3 control knobs, making it an easy pedal to maneuver and dial in. The tones that this high-quality piece of gear produce are outstanding as well, as we’ve come to expect from great companies like Walrus Audio. Sturdy enclosure, great switches and knobs and the guts are a thing of beauty as well.

The real standout for this drive pedal to me is the amount of Tonal Range that you have to work with, even though it’s just a simple 3-knob setup. The Gain can do everything from an awesome clean boost to thick, heavy overdrive, bordering on fuzzy distortion with the Tone knob cranked as well. Dialing everything back, then adjusting them one-at-a-time will allow you to really feel the full potential of this pedal, and how it can dynamically alter your current setup’s overall sound. It make look like a simple pedal, but underneath the looks-like-it’s-easy-to-use layout, there are lots of things going on, and they are all fun to try out.

Clean Boost? Check. Mild Overdrive to warm up your tone? Check. High Gain to saturated your sound and your listeners’ ears? Double check. The Voyager from Walrus Audio may look like a one-trick pony, but make no mistake: this sturdy little monster is a powerful workhorse, one with many different textures and flavors. High-quality build, huge tonal range, true bypass and a reputation of excellence from one of the best companies out there right now – what more could you ask for in an Overdrive pedal? I say not much.

Specs:
True Bypass
9V DC 20mA
4.77 x 2.9 x 2.3 inches

  1. Owning this pedal for a while now, I’ve struggled with the idea of moving it off my board. That is until I realized how this pedal really shines. Through a clean channel, a meaty boost with a little grit was about all I was able to dial in for my liking. Then I got a 1981 Mesa Mark ii. I learned that this pedal really shines when you have drive on the front of your amp. It made my great sounding amp drive sound fantastic. It’s now my goto for pushing my amp hard. The voyager isn’t going anywhere now! If you like to use an amp for drive, the voyager does nothing but make it better! Most people would default to a tube screamer for this, but I would encourage you to try the voyager!
