Wow. Where to begin with this guy? First off, Dwarfcraft Devices make pedals that make noise, and I mean that in the best possible way. Their little metal enclosures are no for the weak-hearted, or those who are looking to preserve their pristine hearing ability. They are good at what they do, and a shining example of that is the incredible Hax Ring Modulator.
A true sonically experimental beast, the Hax conjures up a multitude of sounds (and, somehow, feelings) that take you on a trip up and down the entire sonic spectrum. The Tune knob adjusts the ring modulation (which can also be controlled by a Moog Expression Pedal, if you’re feeling extra-funky), and provides a large oscillation range and some super-whacked-out noises. The Blend will go from just your clean guitar tone to an all-out onslaught of fuzzy, modulated goodness, and the Crash knob throws all convention out the window and forms a landscape of sounds the likes of which you probably have not yet experienced. Sitting and experimenting with the knobs adds another dimension as well, as you can adjust the current frequency on-the-fly without ever touching your guitar strings. This pedal just keeps surprising you with its versatility and crazy sound emissions.
Add in a Hi/Low switch to shift the pitch at a moments’ notice, and you’ve got yourself one wicked machine. Straight out of my home state of Wisconsin, Benjamin and Louise are creating some extremely unique, weird and awesome pedals. They were also generous enough to donate this pedal to us for review, so I have to give them a BIG thank you for that as well. Make sure you go check out Dwarfcraft Devices.
