The Fuzz Elements Series of stompboxes from Maxon consist of seven different fuzz pedals, each with their own special characteristics and sounds. Based on the vintage Ampeg Scrambler, this pedal produces a unique octave and fuzz combo tone that provides for some spectacular sounds. The Level knob controls exactly what you think it controls, but the other knobs are where this pedal shines. The Overtone knob produces even-order harmonics (even multiples of the fundamental frequency), something I was not aware of previously. This produces some unique and ballsy fuzz tones, even when turned all the way counter-clockwise. That setting is a great drive boost with just a little bit of crunch, but turn it up past 9:00, and the FUZZ is on. The Blend knob is great, too, as it allows the player control of how much fuzz gets through, from a slight tinge to a full-on explosion. The tones are thick, scratchy and meaty, giving you all you can handle, but at the same time providing clear sounds and plenty of sustain, and that classic fuzzy sound with an upper octave twist.
The Void is an awesome-sounding fuzz, and the Blend control gives you a vast amount of control over your tone, which is usually kind of rare for a fuzz pedal! Thanks to Kevin and Godlyke Distributing for allowing me to give this pedal a test run. It sounds great, and hopefully I’ll be able to review a couple more pedals in the Fuzz Elements Series from Maxon.
