hartman pedals compressorBased on the legendary Orange Squeeze compressor from Dan Armstrong, the Hartman Compressor provides a nice, smooth squish to your tone, while also giving it just a smidgen of attitude. The Ratio knob adjusts the right amount of compression for your tone, while the Gain knob controls the level and growl of the pedal.

Warm tones, pleasing to your ear, and very quiet as well, which is something a lot of compressors lack. 2 knobs, not much to it, but what it does, it does WELL. It will boost your signal a bit if you need it to, but as we all know, each compressor is its own beast, and every players’ ear is going to perceive the sound a bit differently. The general consensus (not from everyone) is that compressor go at the FRONT of the effects chain, but the Hartman Compressor is fun to try in different positions throughout your chain, just to see the differing effects that the placement will have on your tone.

Compressors have always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with guitar players, and this one is no different. It went on my board as soon as I got it, and I just leave it on all the time, it’s that fantastic. If you want a really simple, really nice take on a classic squishy compressor, the Hartman is definitely for you.
