I had heard that the Hartman Analog Flanger was one of the best flangers on the market today, so I decided to check it out for myself, and see what the hubbub was all about. Needless to say, this pedal is all it claims to be (I think: I’ve never played through an original Electric Mistress, so I’m not 100% sure!).
First off, the color of this pedal is rich and stunning, and it is built like a tank. Super sturdy, heavy metal enclosure, looks like it would survive a nuclear blast. Now the sound: clear, full flanging tones come pouring out of this machine – after some time playing around with the Speed and Depth knobs, it was fairly easy to achieve the sounds of Andy Summers, Pink Floyd, etc. The old Electric Mistresses had a big noise problem, too, apparently, but the Hartman is quiet as a mouse when engaged, and is true bypass. I wish it had a little more bite to it, as it was difficult to get that hard-edged Van Halen sound, but that’s not really what this flanger is all about. Crisp, warm, inviting flanger tones are what’s on display here.
Want a flanger that can produce (most of) the classic guitar sounds we all know and love? This is it, a great modern upgrade to an old classic sound. Well built, great-looking and relatively easy to use, the Hartman Analog Flanger is a true work or art.
