Mammoth Electronics J201 Boost

Mammoth Electronics are doing something pretty unique: they sell you the pedal as a KIT and you get to build it yourself! It’s an interesting concept, and I think it makes effects pedals users appreciate what all goes into making these awesome creations, and why (some of them) are so expensive 🙂 They were kind enough to send me this already assembled J201 Boost pedal to test, which I am grateful for, as my soldering skills are not what you would call “good”.

This little fella is based around the J201 transistor, hence the name, and is a simple one-knob boost for your instrument’s signal. Extremely clean, just adding more of what’s already there, without coloring your tone whatsoever. I have been using it before my Overdrive pedals, to get a bit of extra crunch out of them, but it works well as an easy volume booster, too. Mammoth also has a couple of other different boost kits, the ‘Stage 3 Booster’ and the ‘Jack Orman Mini Booster’, which have varying components for different types of sounds.

Solid enclosure, awesome graphics, the pedals here are built to last. These are some of the nicest folks I’ve met so far on this reviewing adventure, big props to everyone over at Mammoth Electronics for their support – now YOU go support them and buy one of these sweet kits (just practice up on your soldering before it arrives)!

  1. I’ve got the j201 boost on my board after the drive section and it is phenomenal. Works so well as a solo boost to cut through the mix on leads, for a fraction of what you would pay for a keeley katana or jhs banana boost.
