The V2 fuzz pedal by Castledine Electronics is a muff with the circuit based on violet ram’s head (1973). Is good remember that it isn’t a clone, but one revisit circuit, keeping the original sound like you would expect from a vintage unit… My unit is number #3 from the first batch…. its control knobs are the classic Tone, Volume & Sustain. Unlike to vintage units, the V2 has true bypass switching, so there is no loss of treble when bypassed. The pedal may be powered with a PP3 battery or by a std 9V DC (centre negative).
Its sound is very growly and full, the medium frequencies are enough present and help it to get out to the mix. The original Violet Ram’s was famous for his musicality and for his “hole” on medium frequencies… The V2 has the musicality from original muff but, probably, Castledine has implemented the medium frequencies…According to me, the V2 is very suitable for lead guitar, even if I found the best sound with no full distortion. My favorite configuration is with sustain to 3/4, tone 1/2 and Stratocaster with neck pick-up.
The V2 is been made by Castledine Electronics completely hand made in UK. His construction is curate even on the more little particular.
